Two Gunnedah Shire Council employees have been recognised for their commitment to the local community.

Lauren Mackley and Sewa Emojong were both nominated for the Seven News Young Achiever Awards NSW and ACT, and, while others won in their categories, they said it was 'nice to be recognised'.

Arts and cultural officer Lauren Mackley was nominated for the NSW Premier's Regional Achievement Award for the impact she has made on Gunnedah's culture and arts. She attended the awards ceremony on Saturday night.
"I was very honoured; it's quite a big deal and it's really nice to be recognised for the effort you put in for the community," Ms Mackley said.
"I was really excited. It definitely made me blush."
Gunnedah councillor Owen Hasler said he nominated Ms Mackley for the award because she had made a "significant contribution as a young leader".
"She's very much contributed a lot for our community since becoming a resident of Gunnedah," Cr Hasler said.
"She has a good relationship with our community and a number of indigenous artists."

Youth development officer Sewa Emojong was nominated for the Scouts NSW/ACT Youth Development Award by Ashley Gardner, council's acting manager for communications and cultural services.
"I appreciated it - it's really nice to be recognised by your supervisor," Ms Emojong said.
"I'm quite lucky that my whole job is about empowering young people and it's great that I get to do what I love."
The council’s corporate and community services director Colin Formann commended the women for their achievements.
“I am very proud to have had two staff ... nominated for awards," Mr Formann said.
"It is a wonderful achievement for them both and great to see their hard work recognised. Both staff have a huge commitment to their roles and focus on what positive impact they can make on our community.”
