Liverpool Plains Shire mayor Andrew Hope said the person would be employed through the council for up to six months to support drought-affected residents, manage drought funding and help roll out future community projects.

Cr Hope said it would enable the council to provide "one point of contact" for locals in drought and "we'll be looking for that person in the immediate future".
"After council did community consultation about different projects, we got a lot of feedback from rural people frustrated with not knowing where to go or where to find help," he said.
"Some people call up and, at the end of day, just want to have a chat and you want to make sure there’s ample time to talk to those who need to talk.
"The most important thing in this drought is making sure we care for the people … [and] to make sure as few people as possible slip between the gaps."
