Gunnedah Rugby Club's Red Devils are celebrating - and taking a breather - after being "extremely lucky" with the turnout for their first big family day out on Saturday.

Co-organiser Allison Korn said the committee estimated more than 1000 people had gone through the gate.
She said the likely plan now was to get another event ready for October, before making it an annual springtime feature.
The event went for more than 12 hours and featured constant live entertainment; food, drink, information and market stalls; and activities for children.
"We were so unsure as to how many people we would get through the gate, but we were extremely lucky," she said.

"The rugby club is extremely lucky to have such a close-knit community, and I think everybody just spread the word."
That was despite a bit of a hiccup the day before, when strong wind put a stop to the set-up of the marquees and that had to be left for the morning of the event.
"It was an amazing sight pulling up at the gates at 6am, and there we had 30 to 40 rugby boys and old rugby players putting them up. It just went to show how good the rugby community is," Miss Korn said.
New England Brewery Co's Coley Dains had their beers on offer at the bar, and said the day had been "just a wonderful time".
"I’m proud to have been a part of it and I’m really excited to go back next time," he said.
"[It's] going to become a charity event, so that’s really exciting to be part of growing the community and giving back."
He sold out on the day.
"We honestly didn’t expect that, but there was quite a turnout … the community really got behind it."
