As part of the MUNA event, each student team represents a different country, and participate in a simulated United Nations (UN) assembly. The event develops the public speaking skills of each student while debating on topical world issues.

The teams are encouraged to dress according to the styles or religions of that country, and are expected to research their allocated country and its view points.
The event was held in Gunnedah last year, with high school students from as far as Coffs Harbour attending.
Gunnedah Rotary 2380's Pat Walls is on the MUNA organising committee and said the event would benefit participating students in many ways.
"It gives them the opportunity to work as a team, to socialise and to meet similar students in the district, and to learn about a country that they may not have thought about," Mrs Walls said.
"It's about developing young people, so that they become aware and realise that they’re part of the world, they’re not just part of their Gunnedah or their school community.
"They’ve got an obligation to their world community."
But it isn't all debating - there are also a number of fun, social events over the weekend.
"Students arrive Friday afternoon and have a get-together fun night, with break-the-ice activities," Mrs Wall said.
"They spend all day Saturday debating, and on Saturday night they have a social function and disco."
Mrs Walls said she hoped students from St Mary's College and Gunnedah High School would attend the event again.
"Last year we had 26 teams from about 15 schools," she said.
"Schools from as far as Coffs Harbour south to Taree, west to Coonabarabran, Moree, Lightning Ridge, Narrabri and Glen Innes, any of these schools can send teams."
The winning team and the best speaker of the event will receive the opportunity to attend the national MUNA event in Old Parliament House in Canberra.
