GUNNEDAH Evening VIEW Club’s first gathering for 2019 included the annual general meeting and the much anticipated “friends reveal” where members discover who has been their secret Friend in VIEW over the past year.
There was great excitement as gifts were exchanged and the many anonymous acts of kindness between friends were appreciated.
VIEW is a women’s friendship club with a hidden treasure where members raise funds for disadvantaged students through the Smith Family charity’s Learning for Life program.
The Evening VIEW Club supports three senior students throughout the year and members were delighted to hear that one student has graduated from high school and has set out on a new path thanks to the support received through the program. The club has welcomed a new student this year.
The club has enjoyed an exceptional year with interesting and inspiring guest speakers, themed nights, a bus trip to L’il Kickerbell and many other happy occasions.
Zone councillor Sally Cronberger travelled from Tamworth to preside over the election of office bearers, with Margaret Stevens stepping down as President, after many years of service in the chair and other committee positions over the past 20 years. Club members have expressed appreciation to Margaret Stevens for her ongoing contribution to the club.
Kate Knight has taken on the role of vice-president, with Marie Hobson elected secretary/publicity officer, assisted by Moana Shoobert. Trish Conway was returned to the treasurer’s position, assisted by Rosemarie Eveleigh, who was also elected club delegate. Program officers: Linda Lee and Sue Braby. Negotiations continue to elect a new president.
The next meeting will coincide with International Women’s Day and its theme Balance for Better. Members are looking forward to hearing from guest speaker Juliette Scott, who will cover many aspects of creating a better life with the theme “Awareness is the Key”.
New members are always welcome at VIEW. The next meeting will be held at Gunnedah Services and Bowling Club on Wednesday, March 6, at 6:30pm for 7pm. Apologies and names of guests should be phoned to Kate by the Monday prior to the dinner meeting. Competition donor: Anne Finnigan.
