The carnival will kick off at 9am on Saturday, March 16 to celebrate Harmony Day, a day of inclusiveness, belonging, respect, and an opportunity to explore cultures from around the world.

The event will include multicultural markets, food vendors and stall holders, as well as a free jumping castle and facepainting. 

There will also be live music workshops involving body percussion, ukelele, Italian folk songs and collective choir techniques.

Community members are encouraged to wear orange on the day, Harmony Day's official colour, for the chance to win a family pass to The Civic, as well as a mystery prize.

Gunnedah Shire Council’s cultural precinct team leader Lauren Mackley said this year marks 20 years of Harmony Day celebrations in Australia.

“Everybody is welcome in Gunnedah, it is such a friendly and accepting community and Harmony Day is an extension of Gunnedah’s welcoming nature,” Ms Mackley said.

“Harmony Day is a day where we can rejoice in our diverse community and we are asking everyone to come along [and] be part of the day’s celebrations.”

The event is held in conjunction with Gunnedah’s Weeks of Speed Tractor Trek down Conadilly Street from 10am and the Annual Show and Shine event in the Woolworths car park from 10.30am.
