Josh Coker, Keaton Walters, Harry Ryman and Lacie and Kyran Klienschafer were part of a 17-strong Gunnedah contingent that traveled to Glendale earlier this month to compete at the Little Athletics NSW (LANSW)) Region 1 Championships.

They qualified for the state titles by finishing in the first two in their respective events.

Ryman won gold in the under-11 boys high jump and silver in the 60m hurdles and long jump. He also placed fourth in the 100m.

He won’t though be able to compete at the championships as he will be away.

Coker performed well in the throwing events, finishing second in the under-14 boys discus and javelin, and fourth in the shot put.

Walters showed his versatility throwing his way to gold in the under-10 boys shot put and winning silver in the high jump. He also finished just out of the medals in the 60m hurdles placing fifth and was ninth in the discus.

Competing in the under-10 girls, Lacie Kleinschafer claimed silver in the shot put to go with third in the discus, fifth in the long jump and ninth in the 70m, while elder brother Kyran picked up silver in the under-12 boys javelin and was sixth in the shot put.

Luke Jeffrey also made the podium winning bronze in the under-11 boys shot put.

There were also several strong performances from the under-8s competitors, although they don’t progress onto state.

Gus Simpson won gold in the 70m and silver in the 100m while Asher Cameron added bronze in the 70m to her gold in the 70m hurdles and Will Stevenson ran his way to bronze in the 700m.

Will Stevenson: 8th shot put and discus, 4th 400m, 3rd 700m

Archie Ryman: 4th 70m heat, 8th 60m hurdle final, 12th long jump, 14th discus

Dylan Cobb: 12th 60m hurdles, 7th 200m

Gus Simpson: 9th long jump, 4th shot put, 2nd 100m, 1st 70m

Zayden Kleinschafer: 12th discus, 13th 700m, 10th shot put, 11th 400m

Asher Cameron: 1st 70m hurdle, 9th 100m, 3rd 70m , 6th 200m

Under-9 girls

Marnee Walters: 4th 400m, 6th 200m, 5th 800m

Under-10 boys and girls

Keaton Walters: 5th 60m hurdles, 9th discus, 2nd high jump, 1st shot put

Lacie Kleinschafer: 2nd shot put, 3rd discus, 5th long jump, 9th 70m

Under-11 boys and girls

Claudia Cobb: 5th 1500m, 6th 400m, 8^th 800m, 7th high jump

Haylee Turner: 5th 200m, 5th 800m, 11th 100m, 13th long jump

Luke Jeffrey: 3rd shot put, 6th javelin, 5th discus, 10th 800m

Jed Simpson: 9th 800m, 8th long jump

Harry Ryman: 1st high jump, 2nd 60m hurdle, 2nd long jump, 4th 100m
