A SQUAD of eight Gunnedah swimmers held the flag high at the recent Swimming New England North West long-course championships in Manilla.

The titles began on Saturday afternoon following the Speedo Sprints and continued on Sunday.
Fourteen-year-old Andre Steele took on a packed program, winning the 50m butterfly and freestyle, where he nailed a personal best time of 28.65 seconds. He also scored a win in the 100m freestyle and finished second in the 50m backstroke, and 100m backstroke, with a huge personal best in the medley to claim bronze.
Amelia Lush has hit her straps this season, picking up five bronze medals in the 12 years division with an impressive time in the medley, where she was just edged out of a place.
Darcy Hannaford,11, Maddie Coombs,16, and Angus Hobson,10, were also gold medallists at the very competitive meet, with Darcy winning the freestyle and backstroke and finishing second in the 200m medley and 100m backstroke and freestyle.
Maddie Coombs won the 50m freestyle and backstroke and finished second in the 200m medley, 100m freestyle and backstroke and 50m butterfly.
Facing tough competition in the 10 years division, Angus Hobson pulled out all stops in the medley clipping eight seconds from his entry time to claim gold, with a four-second improvement and a bronze in the 100m breaststroke. He also won bronze in the 50m event.
Scout Newbery was also a medallist at Manilla winning bronze in the 11-12 years 100m backstroke after registering a personal best time. The tenacious competitor just missed a medal in the 100m butterfly.
Although unplaced at the carnival Brodie Coombs and Danika Jones gave their best and gained valuable experience, with the the team winning a total of eight gold,10 silver and nine bronze.
