Gunnedah Bicentennial Creative Arts Gallery is calling for artworks to contribute to Gunnedah’s celebrations for 2019 International Women’s Day.
This year the event is held on Friday, March 8 with the theme #BalanceforBetter.
This theme celebrates the social, economic, cultural and political achievements of women, and makes the call for improved gender balance.
Gunnedah Shire Council’s cultural precinct team leader Lauren Mackley said the theme is the inspiration for the exhibition, but any artwork that celebrates, empowers, or explores women can be entered.
“This year’s exhibition will also see a gold coin entry fee to White Ribbon Australia,” Ms Mackley said.
“Enter the exhibition or come along to opening night and help us in making a positive difference for women and raise awareness of the role women play in our society.”
This exhibition was considered a resounding success and the day has been celebrated in the shire ever since.
Submission forms are available at the Gunnedah Visitor Information Centre, the art gallery, and on the Gunnedah Shire Council website.
All artwork submissions, along with the completed submission form and gold coin donation, must be delivered to the art gallery by 5pm on Friday, March 1.
The exhibition will be curated by Ms Mackley and local artist Fonda Rowland, and will officially open at 6pm on Friday, March 8 and continues until April 14.
