AS Kookaburras look to secure this season’s one-day competition against Mornington on Saturday, club stalwart Shayne Riordan believes his opponents will have a secret weapon.

“They’ve got Rob Anderson and he is a horribly serious cricketer,” Riordan said.
“Given how long we’ve both been playing, I’m one of the few guys currently playing in the competition, who has seen him before he came back earlier this season.
“He’s telling them how to field, how to bat and where to bowl, he’s been doing them the world of good.”
Since Anderson’s inclusion, Mornington have secured back-to-back victories and broken an almost two year-long losing streak.
“He’s made an immediate impact,” Riordan said.
“It’s no surprise and I think he will continue to do them the world of good throughout the rest of the season.”

Saturday’s contest will be the final round of one-day games for the season, with both Kookaburras and Albion in the hunt for the title.
“With how we’ve been going these last few years, winning anything would be good,” Riordan said.
“To win the whole thing would be really good for us and the confidence of some of our younger guys.”
While a victory will hold Kookaburras in good stead, a victory over Court House could see Albion bypass them.
“I think all we can really do is try and win our game and then take whatever else comes,” Riordan said.
“I’m not too sure, but I think even if win, Albion can still get passed us if they have a big win over Court House.
“Obviously we hope Court House can help us out but I’d say we will just focus on what we can control.”
As for his own game, Riordan said he is “feeling better than I have for a while”.
“I have missed a few games in the first half of the season through travel and things like that,” he said.
“I played a few games before Christmas and eased my way back into it.
“Now though, I’m feeling really fresh and I’m ready to be back on deck full time.”
Riordan said he was hopeful some of his younger teammates would “take the next step” in the second half of the season.
“I think we have seen some pretty positive signs from a few of the younger guys so far this season,” he said.
“There are a few areas where they need to tighten up, but I think they have had their moments.
“Hopefully, they can take that next step later in the year.”
