REGISTRATIONS for this summer’s Gunnedah Premier League twenty-20 competition are now open and the action is expected to be better than ever.
After the success of last season’s tournament, the Gunnedah District Cricket Association is hopeful of attracting even more talented players to this summer’s event.
Association secretary James Mack said the competition would kick-off in the new year.
“I reckon it went really well last year and we are hoping for more of the same this year,” Mack said.
“Having played in it myself last year, I can honestly say it is one of the most fun things you can be a part of in local cricket.
“Hopefully we can have another strong turn out player wise for this season.”
With the Tamba Industrial Bulls holding on for a one-run victory over the Sign Print Stitch Stars in last season’s grand final, Mack remains confident this season could be even better.
“It was a real thriller that grand final,” he said.
“I think things were pretty competitive throughout the whole competition and that was certainly the best way to finish.
“With the talent we have around our region at the moment that could be playing in this competition, I have no reason to doubt it could be even better this season.”
Consisting of four teams, registered players will be selected in a draft-style system ahead of the opening games in January.
“It's a little bit of an unusual way of doing things compared to some of the other t-20 competitions around,” Mack said.
“Most others are a club v club style competition, but by doing it this way it helps keep things very even.
“It also gives people the chance to play with guys they might not otherwise get a chance to and it’s also a chance to play opposite guys you’d usually line up with in club cricket.
“Overall it is a really enjoyable competition and playing under lights at Kitchener Park is even better.”
