RFS help no longer needed as Queensland gets rain

A deployment of Rural Fire Service (RFS) volunteers to Queensland today has been cancelled due to rain in the fire area.
A handful of volunteers from Gunnedah and Quirindi, in the Liverpool Range RFS zone, had been due to fly out from Armidale this morning.
Strike team leader Stephen Carstens said they’d been very keen to help, so it was “disappointing for our volunteers but great for the locals up there”.

Mr Carstens said the details of their mission had been in flux during the past couple of days as the situation in the Sunshine State changed.
The most recent plan was for and Mr Carstens to fly out with the Liverpool Range firies and several other volunteers from the Inverell, Tamworth, and lower North Coast areas.
They would have been based in the Gladstone area on Friday, Saturday and Sunday, before coming home on Monday.
According to the Queensland Rural Fire Service website, there were 52 fires across that state this morning, but none listed as emergencies.
