NARRABRI Shire Council has outlined what it expects to have in its planning agreement with Whitehaven Coal, should the company’s Vickery mine extension be approved by the state government.
In front of a large crowd in Boggabri, council agreed that the planning agreement should meet the demands created by the project for new public infrastructure, amenities and services.
It must also secure off-site planning benefits for the wider community, so that the project “delivers a net community benefit”.
Finally, there must be compensation for the loss of, or damage to, a public amenity, service, resource or asset by development through replacement, substitution, repair or regeneration.
Council said the motion sought to ensure the impacts of the project were appropriately managed.
