The $5.2 million project will connect Gunnedah town water to Curlewis to improve the quality of the village’s water supply and the capacity.
Construction of the 15.8km pipeline started in July and Gunnedah Shire Council’s chief engineer Daniel Noble said the pipeline was 97 per cent complete.
“The Curlewis Pipeline and Preston Road reservoirs are moving along on schedule,” he said.
“The construction is on time and expected to be completed in March 2019.”
Mr Noble said the section between Bushes Lane and Denora Avenue on Wandobah Road was the missing link in the middle and once completed will connect the entire length of pipeline.
“The Preston Road reservoirs are still under construction. The floors of the reservoirs have been poured, and the walls are being poured now. The roofs will be installed in the New Year,” he said.
“Once the pipeline construction is finished, the pipeline will be pressurised to test for leaks.”
Mr Noble said when the pipeline was complete, residents would notice “reduced scaling of pipes, improve palatability of water and reduced levels of chloride”.
“There are no changes to bills and residents won’t have to do anything once the pipeline is operational,” he said.
