How to get started in the extraction and energy industries were topics high on the agenda with speakers including representatives from TAFE NSW, Whitehaven Coal and Parkes federal MP Mark Coulton.
However, it was a speech from federal Minster for Resources and Northern Australia, Senator Matthew Canavan that grabbed the students attention.
Senator Canavan told the students about how far reaching the local mining industry was.
“What is done here in this region is so important to the development of Asia and for the development of people who are living in poverty,” Senator Canavan said.
“By doing what we are doing here, we are enabling these people the chance to have the sorts of things we have here which is reliable affordable energy.”
The resources minister encouraged students thinking of entering the extraction industry to “get involved”.
“If you are thinking about what you are going to do once you finish school I urge you to consider this sector,” he said.
“This sector is a powerhouse of our economy and there is still a lot more growth and development to happen within the mining sector.
“The other thing to consider too is that there is a lot of different jobs related to mining.
“Whether you are on the ground, the scientist carrying out studies or flying above it, there are plenty of opportunities within the mining industry.”

EIMEX committie member Rob Hooke said “it was a pleasure to have Senator Canavan visit the expo”.
“It really was a thrill to hear from all of today’s guest speakers,” Mr Hooke said.
“I think it was very informative and a great showcase of what opportunities exist in the industries on display during this expo.
“I hope the students who attended today got as much out of the speakers as I did.”
- Gates open at 9am for the final day of the expo on Saturday.
