The event was held for a second year to raise funds for GYC and the Gunnedah Community Scholarship Fund.
This year, more than $900 was raised, with locals gathering at the Gunnedah Bicentennial Creative Arts Gallery to sink their teeth into delectable desserts including banana splits and choc brownie sundaes.
Gunnedah Community Scholarship Fund chair Gae Swain said she was thankful to the youth council for its hard work in organising and running the event.
“I know everyone had a great opportunity to savour some very delicious desserts so congratulations to them all,” Mrs Swain said.
The timing couldn’t be better for the scholarship fund, with the Higher School Certificate starting on Thursday.
“We wish them all well and we trust many will be applying for the community scholarship fund after they finish the HSC and they work out what they want to do,” Mrs Swain said.
Gunnedah Shire Council’s youth development officer Sewa Emojong said she was “really proud of the efforts of all our youth council members”.
“It was really great that we could create this opportunity for them to get some practical work experience, like getting the Certificate I in Safe Food handling and applying those skills,” she said.
“It’s good that one event could have multiple benefits [and] people thought it was a really great idea and they wished we could do it more often.”
Ms Emojong said she hoped it would be an annual event but “we’re always open to new ideas”.
