From next week, the club will play host to the NSW Police Force Fit for Life program, giving local kids access to a fitness regime, the club’s amenities and a healthy breakfast.

Program co-ordinator Senior Constable Sarah Hobson said the program was open to kids aged between 10 and 17.

“From next week we will be running the program from 7am on Wednesday and Thursday each week,” Senior Constable Hobson said.

“The program was initially aimed at youths at risk but is open for anyone who is interested and teaches wellbeing, fitness, nutrition and building a positive relationship between young people and the police.”

A number of different forms of exercise will be highlighted during the program with boxing set to kick things off.

“Originally the program was put together and piloted in Sydney and is now being offered in PCYC clubs across the state,” Senior Constable Hobson said.

“The program will be the first of many youth programs run by NSW Police in conjunction with PCYC.

“At this stage we are hoping to have a variety of different physical activities to go along with the lessons about wellbeing and individual resilience.”

PCYC team leader Michelle Gosper said the program was free to members of the Gunnedah PCYC.

“Essentially the program comes with the membership cost of $10,” Ms Gosper said.

“Our facility has brand-new equipment for all participants to use and we are currently working on finding volunteer transport to take the kids to school once the sessions are finished.”

Senior Constable Hobson said volunteers were always welcome.

“The sessions have no participation limits,” she said.

“So we are very keen to get as many people involved as we can, whether they are participating or volunteering, everyone is welcome.”
