Gunnedah’s Year 12 students have farewelled everything that’s familiar.
Thursday marked their last official day of school at Gunnedah High School and St Mary’s College as they prepare to plunge into an intensive study period ahead of the Higher School Certificate in October.
Both schools held “muck-up” days this week, with colourful and creative costumes, a slave auction and all-school activities including a slide ‘n’ slide, tug o’ war, karaoke and Twister.
Among the Year 12 students who finished are Jess Moore, Grace Jaeger and Max Crowhurst who have mixed feelings about their last days.
A St Mary’s student, Max said he was “pretty sad” about the end.
“I will definitely miss it – the environment, being with my friends, and I’m friends with my teachers too,” he said.
“I’m kind of looking forward to what I want to do but it makes me nervous at the same time.”
Fellow St Mary’s student Grace said she was “excited” to try new things and travel.
Gunnedah High School student Jess said it has been a long time coming.
“I’m super excited,” she said.
“I’ve been waiting for this day forever – finally 13 years of schooling is over.”
Despite her eagerness for a new venture, Jess said it will be a big change.
“At the same time, it’s sort of daunting because I’m going to miss my friends and my teachers.”
