A Tambar Springs business woman says locals could attract more employment to the Gunnedah area by nominating their own businesses for awards.

Jacqui Donoghue’s comments came on the back of the New England North West Business Awards on Friday night, which saw Lively Linseed, Brooke Patriquin, Mannion Drilling and the Gunnedah Chamber of Commerce take out four categories.
The owner of Lively Seed said sometimes business owners worried that nominating themselves was grandstanding but it could actually do some good.
“It’s more about showcasing your business and showcasing the region, which is what I like about it,” she said.
“It puts a spotlight on our region, which is terrific for attracting other business to our region. It promotes the region, and it’s not all about you.
“It’s about growing the region where you live; growing Gunnedah, making it stronger and more resilient because we are going through a shocking drought but this shows businesses are still doing really well and we’ve got a lot of strings to our bow.”

Mrs Donoghue said she enjoyed attending awards events “to hear about other people’s businesses and what they do”.
“For you to get to regional, you’ve done well,” she said.
“You should be proud of what you're achieving and congratulate your staff and build to see how you can improve on taking out the award the next year because it all gives your business credibility.”
Mrs Donoghue said she would like to see more businesses join the Gunnedah chamber so they can work together to raise the profile of the Gunnedah shire by networking and sharing information and experience.
