The Gunnedah boy has received the most votes out of 165 entrants and is in the running for a VIP tour of The Block 2018, meet and greet with the contestants and host Scott Cam, and $250 spending money.
It would be a dream come true for the nine-year-old who closely follows the renovation reality show and spends his spare time renovating furniture, building and working on houses with his mum Nat Walters.
When the NVI interviewed Steven on September 7, he had 291 votes but with the power of social media and some self-promotion, he watched the number steadily rise to 529 by the time entries closed on Sunday.
“I looked on Mum’s phone at 5:46 in the morning and I said, ‘Mum, mum, mum, I got 529 votes’ and I was still in front,” Steven said.
The Year 4 student said he had been checking the voting scores on his Mum’s phone throughout the week.
“I’ve been stalking myself,” he said.
His mum said the response from the community has been “awesome”.
“Gunnedah is always very good at supporting things but the support went further than that – people were reaching out to people in other states [to get them to vote],” Ms Walters said.
I’ve been stalking myself.

She said it had been great to see Steven make the effort to get the word out about the competition through fliers.
“It’s good to see him want something and go after it,” she said.
“It’s good for them to believe if they want something, they can achieve it.”
Steven will be judged out of the top five entries in NSW, with the chosen entrant to be notified by phone and email.
“I just can’t wait for that message to come in from Scott Cam,” Steven said.
“The [Block contestants] I really want to meet are the funniest ones Norm and Jess.”
