LOCALS are set to have their say about Whitehaven Coal’s proposed Vickery Coal Mine Project with the group set to release the projects environmental impact statement on Thursday.
The expected announcement comes more than 10 months since Whitehaven Coal announced a change in the proposal, the moving of the site’s boundary away from the Namoi River and the scrapping of the Blue Vale section of the project.
It was moved after locals raised concerns the proposed boundary was only 750 meters from the river.
Once the proposed extension’s environmental impact statement goes public, locals will be able to make submissions voicing any concerns or objections they may have.
If the proposed extension is approved by the NSW government, it is expected to create 500 jobs during construction and 450 further jobs during operations.
Whitehaven Coal declined to provide any more details until the official announcement at 12pm on Thursday.
