The boost comes in the form of 32 tonnes of hay from Victoria donated by the Cronulla Lions Club to the Gunnedah Lions Club via the Need for Feed campaign.
Gunnedah Lions Club member Bob Carter said the donated fodder came in a variety of shapes and sizes and would be distributed among 19 local farmers.
“Most of this hay has come from the Mornington Peninsula in Victoria,” Mr Carter said.
“There is also some small square bales of rice hay included in the delivery and they are from Griffith.
“So it comes from all over the place and will be distributed all over the shire.”
Also included in the delivery was 23 tonnes of potatoes from Tasmania.
“It’s something a bit different that’s for sure,” Mr Carter said.
“All of the donations come via Lions Need for Feed and will be distributed by your local Lions Club to families in need who have registered online.”
Namoi Valley Brickworks has thrown its support behind the cause by offering to store the hay free of charge.
“It was an opportunity to help and we thought we would give a hand,” Brickworks team member Micheal Broekman said.
“The delivery arrived on Saturday and all of us here pitched-in and unloaded the four semi loads of hay and one semi load of potatoes in about three hours or so.
“We thought this would be a great way for us to help and pitch-in to help the community.”

Mr Broekman said it was pleasing to see the community come together to help during the drought.
“Coming together when times are tough is what Gunnedah is famous for,” he said.
“You are seeing it right across the board at the moment with so many terrific fundraising and support efforts being put together.”
Mr Carter said the remaining fodder would be collected by the end of the week.
“This is just part of the on-going effort of Lions Australia to help during drought,” he said.
“I would say the rest of this feed will be picked up by Thursday or Friday and there should be more coming in the future.”
