Boggabri will play for a tier-two grand final berth when they meet Werris Creek in the major preliminary final at Kootingal on Sunday, with Kangaroos coach Jason Kemp lauding 16-year-old Roos fullback Cass Morley for her “X factor”.
He said: “She sort of plays off the cuff and does what she wants, but we’re happy for that. And she’s been scoring a couple of tries for us, week in, week out, the last few weeks.”
The Roos beat South West Robins 21-4 in the qualifying final at Jack Woolaston Oval last Sunday.

But Boggarbri and Werris Creek are only playing finals football because Group 4 created a two-tier finals series. They had finished the season in seventh and sixth place, respectively.
Kemp said the move would keep players “a lot more interested” in the sport. “Group 4 made a really good decision when they brought this one in,” he said. “I think all the teams just deserve that bit of extra football.”
Boggabri’s under-18 side will meet Narrabri in a knockout clash at Kitchener Park on Saturday, after North Tamworth edged the Roos 26-24 in the qualifying final at Jack Woolaston Oval last Sunday.
Kemp expects the Roos to bounce back strongly from the loss. He said they would be disappointed to at least not make the grand final after finishing the regular season in second place.
Good numbers and enthusiasm at training on Tuesday augured well for Saturday’s encounter, he added.
“I think they’re pretty confident … and they’ll be switched on to give it a red-hot crack,” he said.
