The state government has set “an ambitious” tourism target to double the amount of tourist dollars spent in regional NSW to $20 billion by 2025.

Minister for Tourism and Major Events Adam Marshall announced the state’s first ever Regional Tourism Target on the opening day of Agquip on Tuesday.
“The tourism sector in NSW has never been stronger. But our current state wide tourism target has Sydney as the heavy lifter getting us to number one,” he said.
“It's now time to look beyond Sydney and do the work needed to turbocharge tourism in our regional and rural areas.”

The government has already put aside $22 million to produce 144 regional NSW specific campaigns, which are set to be beamed both domestically and internationally.
There is also a $100 million regional tourism fund.
“The work starts today – it is an ambitious target but one that is certainly achievable,” Mr Marshall said.
The Regional Tourism Target will rise to $25 billion by 2030.
