Professor Sparkle Stein (aka educator Jade Bartlett) has been visiting the children every day to perform science experiments with the help of an assistant.
The hands-on activities have been interactive with children volunteering to help with experiments using household items like bicarb soda, dishwashing liquid, food colouring and milk. Experiments included an oozing volcano, dynamic art, transformation of a balloon from a ‘caterpillar’ to a butterfly, and a balloon race.
National Science Week is Australia’s annual celebration of science and technology in August. More than one million people participate in science events over the course of a week. The week was established in 1997 to acknowledge the contributions of Australian scientists and encourage an interest in science pursuits.
