Juliana McArthur said there were close to 300 people at the Friday event in the memorial hall, where radio broadcaster Alan Jones aired his morning show.
“I was just so delighted that I achieved that goal of bringing the community together in a different time and having a few hours’ respite from the drought,” Ms McArthur said.
“I had people hugging me in the street [and] people saying, ‘Thank you so much for putting on something that shows people care’. Just something that shows they’re working hard in the drought.
“As Alan Jones said, it cast a stone into the pond and it made a ripple – and we’re yet to see what effect that will have… I know one farmer [from Mullaley] who has spoken to the Prime Minister directly since.”
At the breakfast, Jones called for PM Malcolm Turnbull to declare the drought a national disaster and New England MP Barnaby Joyce said he would “keep driving and driving until we get the response we need”.
