THE quick-thinking and response of firefighters was not enough to save a motorbike from being destroyed by fire in Gunnedah on Sunday.

Fire crews were called to the banks of the Namoi River behind the Gunnedah Saleyards at 12.45 on Sunday afternoon after reports of a fire.
Upon arrival, crews worked to bring the blaze under control but were unable to save the bike from being engulfed by flames.
Gunnedah police say they are aware of the incident but could not confirm if the incident was being treated as suspicious or if it was related to other suspicious fires in Gunnedah over recent weeks.

Gunnedah Fire and Rescue 314 Captain Dave Welch said the fire was brought under control quickly.
“With fires such as these it is critical for people to report them as quickly as possible with as much accurate information as possible,” Captain Welch said.
“While the bike may have been burned out when we arrived, there is always the possibility of the fire spreading and causing further damage.
“That’s why it is crucial for people to give us as much accurate information as possible so we can act quickly and accordingly.”
