Just a week before the Gunnedah Golf Club Championships kick off this Saturday, Streater shot a course record 63 – seven under par.
“It was an incredible round,” Gunnedah Golf Club publicity officer Wal Carter said.
“He’s [Streater] in great form coming into it [the championships], couldn’t be better.”
While Streater will head in as favourite again as he chases his 11th title, Carter said there will be plenty of competition at the top of the leaderboard.
Longtime rival on the course Troy Dries will once again be in the mix along with a couple other faces, Carter said.
“He’s a previous champion,” Carter said of Dries.
“He would probably be his [Streater] main rival. But then you can look at people like John Martin as well.
“There’s those two and Josh Ryan. He’s Luke’s [Gunnedah Golf Club professional Luke Ryan] brother and we could figure in it.
“He’s recently moved here and he’s a former pro. He’s not a pro anymore but he’ll be a main contender.”
Carter himself will be having a hit over the next two weekends at the championships in the super veterans division.
The club has just brought in the new division and is for golfers aged 75 and older.
