AFTER 10 years of being so close, yet so far, Whitehaven Coal’s Narrabri underground mine rescue team has taken out the 2018 Hunter Valley Underground Mines Rescue Competition.
Since 2008 Peabody’s Wambo underground team has had a stranglehold over the competition, that was until the local group came up trumps.
The six man team battled it out with other highly trained underground rescue teams from across the region in a variety of drills and exercises.
Hunter Valley Mines Rescue regional manager, David Connell said the Narrabri rescue team should be congratulated on their performance.
“The team’s victory was by no means an easy feat,” Mr Connell said.
“The hard work they have put in over the last few years has paid off.
“This is a win, not only for Narrabri, but for Whitehaven. It is a testament to the investment they are putting in to build a high level of capability in mines rescue and emergency preparedness.”
