The renewed calls for greater security comes after a stolen car was found crashed near the Gunnedah Skate Park on Sunday.
Fire crews found the car abandoned at the scene.
Investigations into the car crash are continuing with police calling on anyone who may have seen the car being driven earlier on Sunday to come forward.
A police spokesperson said the incident was a timely reminder for locals to secure their property.
“We are requesting residents remain vigilant in securing their vehicles and residences as there have been a number of stolen vehicles, steal from motor vehicles and break and enter offences recently in the area,” the spokesperson said.
