More than $35,000 in funding was distributed to 12 community and sporting groups on Wednesday, as part of the council’s section 356 community grants program.
Gunnedah mayor, Jamie Chaffey, said the program’s applicants were of a high quality.
“The financial assistance program has been in place for more than a decade, and to date has distributed more than $355,000 to local organisations and groups,” Cr Chaffey said.
“The program is designed to support the work of local charitable and not-for-profit organisations, through projects that meet the need of our growing community.”
Among the successful applicants was Challenge Community Services, with regional manager Patrick Delaney on hand to accept the funds.
“We will be using our grant to cover running costs for our annual Gunnedah swimming carnival,” Mr Delaney said.
“The event is really one of the more anticipated within the Challenge community and these funds go a long way to making the event possible.”

Mr Delaney said the organisation “greatly appreciated” the support of the council.
“Our swimming carnival earlier this year, was filled to capacity, which shows how popular it is,” he said.
“We didn’t have the funds for this year’s carnival and we incurred the cost, but this support is greatly appreciated and a real sign of the support that exists within the community.”
