“That’s simply not the case,” a company spokesman said.

“Tractors are heavier and more powerful than ever before, and as a result, issues associated with soil compaction are becoming an increasingly common problem.

“If growers aren’t running the tractor between the rows post-emergence, there’s really no reason to be running duals.

“Working with agronomists, Delta New Holland conducted a field study on two identical test plots planting corn in Sikeston, Missouri.

“One planted with a tractor running a narrow dual configuration, the other planted with LSW extreme flotation tyres.

“Results showed that the test plot with the extreme flotation tyres yielded five more bushels per acre compared to the duals. 

“This example demonstrates that an additional five bushels per acre at $3.25 per bushel on 1500 acres could add an extra $24,375 in annual profit.
