HELPING to boost cancer awareness was the prize that awaited 22 Gunnedah running fanatics at the finish line of the inaugural Love Your Sister (LYS) run in Sydney on Sunday.
Members of Gunnedah Health and Fitness Co (GHFC) took part in the event’s five and 10km courses to raise money for the LYS charity.
GHFC’s, Maryanne Perkins, said the charity was a worthy cause.
“LYS was founded by Samuel Johnson when his sister Connie was diagnosed with cancer,” Ms Perkins said.
“It is the fastest growing, and probably one of the most authentic, cancer charities.
“It has no admin costs and 100 per cent of every dollar donated is passed on to cancer research.”

Ms Perkins said the cause was close to the team's heart.
“GHFC chose this as their feature run in preference to their normal City to Surf trip as many of their key members have been effected by cancer in the last few years,” she said.
“Included in the group were two breast cancer survivors, two sisters who have recently lost yet another sibling to cancer, and a very brave member who lost her husband to cancer just under a year ago.
“Sunday was quite emotional for a few of them and I know their were a few angels carrying them on their run.”

The fitness instructor said the team’s fundraising efforts would continue.
“The crew were one of the largest teams at the event and are in the top 15 of thousands of donation tallies so far,” she said.
