The Australian Bureau of Meteorology (BOM) recorded temperatures of minus four and minus three on both Tuesday and Wednesday morning respectively.
The icy conditions are the coldest overnight temperatures the shire has recorded in 2018 so far.
Many locals embraced the cold conditions taking in icicles and frosty grass as the school holidays draw to a close. BOM is predicting the cold, but dry, conditions will continue for the shire with overnight lows of minus one expected on both Saturday and Sunday night.
Next week, daytime maximums are expected to have a spring feel as temperatures are expected to reach 24 degrees on Tuesday and 22 degrees on Wednesday.
On Thursday, BOM predicted a 40 per cent chance of rain for Gunnedah but less than 1mm of rainfall is expected.
