In a recent address to the congregation at St Joseph’s Catholic Church, SVDP president Vince Tydd said the charity had been supporting on average 40 clients a month.
“All funds raised here stay in the local community,” Mr Tydd said.
“We purchase food, blankets and other items for those in need and also help out with power and telephone accounts - we have also assisted needy people with support to get to medical appointments out of town.
“With the drought severely impacting the region, many people are in need of assistance but may be reluctant to ask for help - if you know someone who is in this position, please encourage them to contact St Vinnies.”
Mr Tydd said the charity greatly appreciates the support given by the community over many years and is grateful for the ongoing financial donations as well as support for the Vinnies retail store.
“Our generous band of volunteers do a great job but we would appreciate any others who would like to give some time each week - it can be very rewarding,” he said.
Anyone requiring assistance is invited to visit the care and support centre, via the Bloomfield Street entrance, on Thursday or Friday, from 10-11.30am, or phone 6742 5318 or 6742 1836.
Vinnie’s is located on the corner of Marquis and Bloomfield streets in Gunnedah.
