Ministers Fraternal secretary Howard Barnes said local church groups were inviting people to come and pray or just show their solidarity with people suffering in the drought.
“Let’s ask God for rain, and also for stability and resilience for them,” he said.
“It’s not driven by any one church; all are invited.
“There will be no preaching, no singing – just prayer.”

Mr Barnes said the religious leaders he’d spoken to were “really concerned, because this drought is so horrendous”.
“People are saying it’s the worst in 100 years,” he said.
“It’s really hurting farmers – not just their livelihood, but also their emotional state.
“We can have collections and support them in a material way, but what we need is rain – and if rain is going to come, it’s going to come from God.”
Mr Barnes said while he’d heard some saddening tales, he’d also heard of many heartening stories of other kinds of support.
“People in Tamworth saying to a Loomberah farmer … ‘If you’re coming into town, bring a load of washing with you and I’ll do it, if you’re reduced to bore water’ … or ‘Feel free to come and take a shower, and take as long as you like’.”
- The evening of prayer for rain will be held on Tamworth, July 19, 7.30pm-8.30pm, at Tamworth town hall
