Spackman has been sidelined since playing with a fractured fibula in the Bulldogs’ top-of-the-table clash against competition leaders Inverell on June 16.
He said the injury was not as bad as first thought and he was 95 per cent confident of playing against last-placed Moree.
He said a final decision on his fitness would be made at training on Thursday night, adding that he ran well at training on Tuesday night.
Seven rounds remain before the finals, but Spackman believes that it will be difficult for second-placed Gunnedah to catch the Saints.
In fact, he said second place was where the Bulldogs deserved to be given how young the side were – although he was confident they could topple main threats Inverell and New England and claim back-to-back premierships.
“We’re lacking a bit of smartness. And that’s coming with the young blokes, and a lot of people are learning,” he said, adding that Gunnedah “were not that far behind” Inverell – “the team to beat”.
