Gunnedah is set to host Deputy Prime Minister Michael McCormack for a breakfast function at the Gunnedah Services and Bowling Club on Friday.
Following the breakfast, hosted by the Gunnedah and District Chamber of Commerce and Industry, Mr McCormack will hold a press conference along with federal member for Parkes, Mark Coulton and state member for Tamworth, Kevin Anderson.
Locals are crossing their fingers that the Minister for Infrastructure and Transport will make an announcement during the press conference about an upgrade to Grain Valley Road.
The hopes come off the back of the Deputy Prime Minister’s last visit to Gunnedah in March, which saw him inspect the condition of the road and consult with locals about their experiences using the road.
Locals who use the road which runs between Mullaley and Boggabri have campaigned from as long ago as 2010 for the road to be upgraded which prompted the consultation from the Deputy Prime Minister.

The NSW government announced in Tuesday’s state budget that $6 million from the budget had been allocated for the overpass project.
