Concrete trucks began arriving at the site on Tuesday morning, with workers busy pouring and laying out the base for the future structure.
It is expected four trucks will be used throughout the pour with workers currently working on two thirds of the pavilion, which is expected to be complete in the coming days.
Following the pour of the pavilion foundation, crews will then turn their attention to the laying of concrete for the pool’s plant room, which is expected to be completed later in the month.
In a update released by Gunnedah Shire Council, works to the pavilion are now back on track following issues with excavation of the site.
“Construction of the new main pavilion is on the move after some delays due to additional work required on the basement structure that has been retained for the new building,” the update said.
“Demolition works on the pavilion exposed defects in the existing brickwork of the basement, that required rectification and stablisation before other structural work could proceed.
“The basement structural remediation has now been finialised, allowing construction work associated with the southern section of the main pavilion to proceed without interruption.”
When works began on the pavilion and new 50-metre pool, council opted to retain the pool’s memorial tower, which has stood since the pool was first built in 1954.
“The memorial tower also requires some additional retention and remediation works to ensure its longevity is maintained,” the update said.
“Demolition of the surrounding pavilion building exposed the need for additional structural stabilisation and alterations to the cosmetic treatments proposed for the tower.”

As well as concrete works for the site’s new pavilion, council is also pleased with the progress of the new 50-metre pool, with water testing set to take place in the coming weeks.
“The new 50-metre pool will offer something for everyone,” the update said.
“From the competitive, to those seeking a relaxing dip.
“We’re hopeful of filling the 50-metre pool in the coming weeks for the purposes of stress testing the concrete.”
A full update on the progress of project will be delivered to councillors at council’s next meeting on June 20, at the Breeza community hall.
It is expected plans for minor upgrades to the Gunnedah heated pool will also be discussed at the meeting on Wednesday night.
