The Roos claimed first blood before the Magpies piled on the points to take a 26-4 lead into the half-time break.
A rejuvenated Boggabri outfit then got to work.
The Kangaroos posted four second half tries, two of them to hard-working prop Nathan Miller, with nimble fullback Kialu Brown organising the attack with halfback and skipper Kyle Gallen.
However, the fightback wasn’t enough as errors hurt the Roos.
“We started alright,” Boggabri coach Shane Rampling said.
“Led 4-nil but we made too many mistakes and missed too many tackles.
“We fell away and they made us pay.”
The Magpies took advantage of the slack Roo defence with Thomas Brown stretching out to score the home side’s first try after seven minutes.
Scott Berry then scored a brilliant individual try when he stepped through the middle of the Boggy defence and beat fullback Brown with another great step to score under the posts.
Centre Kieran Williams, one of the Magpies’ best, then made one of his many, strong runs to pop a pass for winger Brad Vidler to score his first try just seven minutes from half-time.
Four minutes later and Williams repeated the dose to gift wrap Vidler his second try.
Leading 20-4 with half-time fast approaching, the Magpies celebrated some vintage play from one of their greatest.
Stewart Porter picked up a dropped pass from prop Chris Wilson about 60 metres out.
The 47-year-old then accelerated through a gap, beat a defender with his trademark sidestep and sailed into the clear. Winger Jermain Walford then appeared from nowhere to accept a simple pass to race away and score.
It was a brilliantly simple piece of play that Porter has been delighting fans with for almost three decades and handed the Magpies a 26-4 half-time lead.
In the second half, Brown was at his best for Boggabri.
He had a hand in most plays for the Roos and made a brilliant try-saving tackle on Werris Creek fullback Harlee Millgate as well.
While Brown was the best player on the field, double try-scorer Miller, Gallen and lock Matt Gillham also had strong games.
Col “Dogs” Gillham’s rendition of the club song in the sheds after the game was worth price of admittance after his vocal entertainment on the sideline whispered a bleeding green and gold Roo heart.
The ladies league tag also finished up with a tight loss on Saturday.
In an entertaining display of league tag, Werris Creek just edged out Boggy to win 14-12.
Chloe Davis led the way for the Roos with a try to her name as she claimed two best and fairest points in the loss.
Cassidy Morley also crossed for a try while Tarsha Smith kicked two goals for Boggabri.
Werris Creek scored their tries through Dayna Porter, Casey Hatch and Anna Smith while Hatch also kicked the sole goal for the Magpies.
Werris Creek players Hatch and Jane Hill snared the three and one points, respectively.
