The Boggabri Kangaroos might be at the bottom of the table but they just need an ounce of luck to ignite their season, their coach believes.
Shane Rampling looked on last Saturday as his side tackled Gunnedah in a local derby for the Boyde Campbell Cup in front of a massive crowd.
They finished the game 48-34 losers but in a tit-for-tat game they matched the Bulldogs much of the way, trailing 22-18 at half time and then clawing their way back to 38-34 with less than 10 minutes to go. The Roos' skipper, halfback Kyle Gallen, was sent off in the 54th minute.
It’s been a challenging season for Boggabri, promoted from the old second division to tackle the likes of Gunnedah, Narrabri and defending premiers North Tamworth from the old first division.
It doesn’t get any easier on Sunday when the North Tamworth Bears come a calling. “We just need a little luck,” Rampling said.
“I feel for our boys. They are trying so hard. They are improving every week. [It’s] just unfortunate we’re making some silly mistakes at the wrong time.”
In other Group 4 games this weekend Kootingal host Gunnedah in a top of the table contest at Kootingal Oval on Saturday, and Narrabri host Werris Creek at Collins Park on Sunday.
