The Gunnedah Eisteddfod Society is busy preparing for this year’s instrumental, music, and speech, drama and public speaking sections.
Kicking off the season is the instrumental section, which runs from May 24-27 and will feature elite Melbourne-based percussionist Broden Ford as adjudicator.
The Gunnedah Band Hall will play host to the competition and will include a variety of solo and duet sections.
Gunnedah Eisteddfod Society vice president Margret Amos told the Namoi Valley Independent the eisteddfod will attract competitors from around the region.
“It is known as the friendly eisteddfod and I think that helps draws competitors from the surrounding towns,” Mrs Amos said.
“I think our numbers are stronger this year than they were for last year and I think it will be a good chance to see local talent in the spotlight.”

Mrs Amos said the society has been busy preparing for this year’s events.
“We are always excited for the event,” she said.
“We are lucky to have such support within the society and within the community, and at the moment we have a really good blend of ages and experience within the society.
“I think this year’s sections will be good for the kids, the older competitors and good for the community in general.”
Following on from the instrumental eisteddfod, the 66th Gunnedah Music Eisteddfod will officially launch with the annual Golden Oldies at Mackellar Care Services on Apex Road on Wednesday, May 30 and contine at the Gunnedah Town Hall until June 2.
The music section will feature strong performances in sections, such as the open choral championship and instrumental ensembles. Luke Byrne from Sydney will adjudicate.
Following the music section is the speech, drama and public speaking section in The Civic Theatre and Gunnedah Town Hall, which will feature prepared speeches, monologues and group improvised drama.
Adjudicating the event from June 4-7 will be Sydney-based drama studio operator Bron Lim.
