Council resolved to allocate the funds at the May council meeting and will see the chamber take on a new administration support officer to assist in the co-ordination of the Chamber’s activities.

At the same time council has established a business advisory group to provide pathways to and from council to assist with effective decision making on local employment and economic opportunities being made. 

LPSC mayor Andrew Hope said organisations such as the Business Chamber were vital to the development of the region.

“LPSC has identified local economic development (LED) as a prominent tool towards facilitating the development of the local region,” Cr Hope said.

“The growth of small business is important for LED and the coordination of the small business sector through formal organisations such as the Business Chamber is fundamental to the process.

“They have a vital role in contributing to building prosperity, development of entrepreneurship and the creation of jobs.”

Cr Hope said the creation of the business advisory group was a top priority for council.

“The establishment of the business advisory group was identified as one of LPSC’s top five economic development objectives to be achieved in the current term of council,” he said.

“We are committed to developing and maintaining a strong relationship with the Chamber with on-going two-way consultation to establish trust and a productive working relationship. 

“Council thanks the Chamber for returning that trust through their nomination of a representative to the group.

“Economic development is not the preserve of any single person, organisation or institution.

“Our approach seeks to combine, marshal and promote a variety of physical, human, political, environmental, economic and cultural capabilities and endowments to benefit our community.”
