This program targets literacy, language and numeracy and the session will include books, reading, writing, and puzzles such as join-the-dots, find the objects, spot the difference, and so on.
Places for the Junior Brain Games sessions are limited, so if you wish your child to attend, then please phone the library on 6740 2190 to secure a place.
If your children could use some more reading practice, perhaps they would like to “borrow a senior” to help them improve their skills. Bookends is a new program, and it will start at the end of May.
Children can book a block of 20 minutes with a senior on Tuesday, Thursday and Friday afternoons – the children will select books to read, and the senior will help and encourage reading skills.
Again, you will need to book a time slot for your child for this activity by ringing 6740 2190 and speaking to the library staff.
Plenty of new books have been added to the library’s shelves this last week. New titles include: Great Australian Test Cricket Stories by Ashley Mallett, “a collection of fascinating cricket yarns that spans centuries and continents"; and the interesting Valiant for Truth: The life of Chester Wilmot, war correspondent by Neil McDonald with Peter Brune.
Two new biographies at the library include Bill Gibson: Pioneering bionic ear surgeon by Tina Allen, and Miss Muriel Matters by Robert Wainwright, a book about “the Australian actress who became one of London’s most famous suffragists”.
New picture books for the younger readers include My Alien and Me, by Smriti Pradsdam-Halls and Tom McLaughlin; Unstoppable Max, a boy who “doesn’t have an off switch” by Julia Patton, Lanterns and Firecrackers: A Chinese New Year story by Jonny Zucker; and Be Brave, Little Penguin by Giles Andreae.
See you soon at the Gunnedah Library!
