GDSA president Simon Gainsford was chuffed with the start to the season – which kicked off on Saturday, May 5 – and the numbers that turned out.
“This is probably the biggest season to date. There’s about 430 kids registered,” Gainsford said after the first round of the competition.
“There’s over 50 teams, which is fantastic, and about 30 per cent of players are girls.
“It’s good to have so many girls involved.
“We’ve got some good numbers across all grades especially at the entry level – which is up.”
While everything “flowed very smoothly” as the season kicked off, Gainsford said the association is still looking for more people to help out – especially referees.
“We’re still looking for more referees. We’re happy to help them along to get involved,” Gainsford said.
