The first grade outfit went down in a close one, 2-1, against Hillvue Rovers on Saturday while the Hawks reserve grade side registered a 5-3 victory.
Grant said the partnership between the Hawks and United was paying off with a handful of players backing up from reserve grade and playing key roles.

“The Hawks have been brilliant for us,” Grant said.
“Matt Daley got our goal and he played a fair bit of reserves. To come and knock one in – a nice individual goal – was great.
“Blake Small doubled up and played in goal for first grade and had an absolute blinder.
“I think we’re travelling alright. It’s nice to get wins but reserves got that.”
In the first grade clash, Hillvue scored their goals 20 minutes either side of half-time before United rumbled back into the game late.
”We were working our socks off to stay in the match and then they got their second but we struck back with about 10 to go,” Grant said.
“It made it an interesting final 10 minutes.”
Grant said the reserve grade side was “strong” and “played really well” in their 5-3 win.
Michael Kleinschafer was the main man in front of goal with a hat-trick in the victory over the Rovers.
Dylan Lugli wasn’t far behind as he snared a double for the Hawks.
Gunnedah United Hawks will hit the road this weekend to take on Quirindi.
