Seniors can be borrowed for 20-minute blocks on Tuesdays, Thursdays and Fridays from 3pm to assist children with reading by giving them one-on-one attention and help. Please ring the library on 6740 2190 for details of the time and to book a place for your child.

Regular spots may be booked daily or weekly, or bookings can be made for help for a special event. Reading forms the backbone of so many skills that it’s important for everyone to be able to read well – it leads to lifelong learning and pleasure.

New titles added to the collection this week and available for borrowing include: The Pearler’s Wife, a debut novel by Australian author Rozane Dhand, whose book is “inspired by a small yet pivotal moment in Australian history”;  Everything is Lies - a thriller with a “brilliantly shocking” ending by Helen Callaghan; Sisters Like Us “a delightful look at sisters, mothers and daughters in today’s fast-paced world, told with Susan Mallery’s trademark warmth and humour”; and Richelle Mead has written another Glittering Court novel Midnight Jewel that will satisfy young adult readers or lovers of gothic fantasy. 

Another fascinating book is one by Jane Goodall of chimpanzee fame is Seeds of Hope: Wisdom and Wonder from the world of plants, packed with interestingly presented information about the “profound relationship we have with the world of plants”. 

And for those readers having problems coping with normal print, the library has received its third consignment of large print books, mostly mystery and thrillers novels, but there are also some autobiographies and general fiction among those titles ready to be read.
