A DOUBLE to Jamie Blacker put Group 4 in the box seat at the Greater Northern Tigers Regional Women’s League Tag Championships at Scone Park on Saturday.
Her effort lifted the visiting side to a 36-6 triumph over hosts Group 21 in the first match of the trials, which also includes Group 19.
Group 4 enjoyed a 30-0 lead at the break and kept its rivals at bay in the second half.
Aimee Diebold (Kootingal-Moonbi), Jessica Baker (Kootingal-Moonbi), Brianna Trickett (Dungowan) and Amy Barraclough (North Tamworth) posted four-pointers, along with two to Blacker (Dungowan) in the opening 25 minutes.
North Tamworth’s Kimberley Resch landed three conversions.
Group 21, however, appeared overwhelmed by the occasion, with dropped ball and uncharacteristic errors hampering the team’s performance.
Although captain-coach Sofie Casson (Scone) touched down to reduce the margin to 30-6; with Shae Pemberton (Muswellbrook) adding the extras.
Kendall Horne (Kootingal-Moonbi) put the icing on the cake for Group 4 with a converted try near the full-time siren.
