April 22 marks the third anniversary of the accident that tragically ended Stu’s life and severely injured other members of the former local band.
To mark this occasion, local musician Steve McCauley has organised a jam afternoon at the band’s “spiritual home”, the Railway Hotel, on Sunday from 3pm.
“It’s going to be a low-key, casual affair with music all afternoon from various guest artists, and the members of Good Corn Liquor – Nick Wright, Ben Murphy and Ben McCauley – will be pumping out some tunes,” Mr McCauley said.
Mr McCauley is part of local band Streamline, which will also play sets and back anyone who needs it.
“It’s just an afternoon for everyone to raise a glass in memory of a wonderful mate and a much loved band that brought a lot of pleasure to anyone who heard them,” Mr McCauley said.
“We hope that anyone who enjoyed the boys’ music will turn up, and would like to extend an open invitation to any local musicians who would like to come and play a song or two.”
Other featured acts on the day will be Allison Forbes, Jess Holland and Sarah Byrnes.
Good Corn Liquor recorded 2 EPs of original music, and was established as one of the best live acts in the country, playing from Newcastle to Darwin. The band members hailed from Gunnedah and Boggabri and blended bluegrass, rockabilly and rock and roll into their own style.
