Councillors will move to adopt Gunnedah’s 2018-2022 crime prevention plan at Wednesday night’s council meeting.
The plan, which details strategies to curb crime in the community, is set to be endorsed after a recommendation from council staff.
It follows a public feedback period which gave community members an opportunity to have their say on Gunnedah’s crime priorities and strategies.
Crime Prevention Working Group chair, councillor Colleen Fuller said the crime prevention plan would help tackle the crime issues in the community.
“It puts in place all kinds of strategies and methods to lower crime and increase protection,” Cr Fuller said.
“We have seen it work in the past, in my 16 years with the working group I would say our work with the Gunnedah Liquor Accord has seen us take some very positive steps and been very successful in lowering some of the issues of the past.”

Cr Fuller said the public display of the plan had received some positive feedback.
“The plan has three main crime targets which are, family violence, alcohol related offences, property crime and anti-social offences, such as vandalism and graffiti,” she said.
“We did receive some positive feedback but I would like to have seen more.
“I think we may have seen a bigger response in terms of feedback if we had held a public meeting as I think more people would feel comfortable in that approach.
“However, we did have some feedback and with plenty of work going on behind the scenes we will work hard towards a crime-free community.”
The Crime Prevention Working Group chair said Gunnedah’s CCTV project would continue.
“We have seen the CCTV cameras make a huge difference in our town,” Cr Fuller said.
“The CCTV project will continue, it has made a major impact on Conadilly Street and will make it’s way down to Wolseley Park for the completion of the new Livvy’s Place playground.
“We are doing well but we can always do better.”
The Crime Prevention Working Group will next meet on the first Tuesday of June, with nominations now open for one youth and two community committee positions available within the group.
